You may sample from the following list or start with the first one and follow the chain:
A Slight Adjustment — We have the technology ... almost. We have people who don't mind interfering in other people's lives, so they just might try to straighten out gay men. Why not? What have they got to lose? What have the rest of us got to lose? Maybe something after all ... — on loan to Crooked Hardboiled Crime Fiction
Minimum Maturity — How hard should we struggle against the indifferent Cosmos? How hard have we already struggled? Do we owe anything to those whose struggles brought us here? Do we owe anything to ourselves? With every fiber, Ditto. Yes, and Yes. Heinlein once said, "The Earth is too small a basket for the human race to put all its eggs into." Then, why aren't we doing anything about the greatest threat to Humanity?
Cleaning Up for Supper — A while ago (I started shipping this version of the story on 10-Jun-94), Jeannie (my wife) & I worked on a horror novel together. While in the depths of that work, we discussed a story in the newspaper about poor elderly eating dog food. Common knowledge then, punks mugged the frail, including the elderly. Putting these issues together, we wrote this story. Here in 2009, I wish I could say these "inspirations" had passed from the social scene, but they have not, so ... who knows, people may indeed be solving these problems in this way somewhere in this great country of ours or elsewhere in the world. — on loan to The Monsters Next Door
