My closest encounter with fame (so far) came during my time in Dallas. Not long after I settled into an apartment in Plano, a suburb mostly north, partly east of Dallas, with my wife and year-old daughter, I met Jay Mauffray; I'm not sure how now. We started a two-man critique group, getting together to help each other with our writing. Jay soon brought another guy along, name of Lewis Shiner, a name you should recognize as the future author of ??
