Gryphon King
A land beset by magic…
In the High Ages, all the lands were one—until sorcery and hatred ripped them apart. The realm of Athgar, last bastion of that fallen civilization, has been brought to the very edge of destruction, drained of men and hope in a terrible war caused by a wizard’s hunger for vengeance.
A young and untried King…
Young Herric, whose defeat of the mages who were Athgar’s ancient enemies opened the first tumultuous year of his reign, now must prove his right to hold the High Seat of Athgar. Together with his foreign bride, witch-born Elaine, Herric faces festering rebellion, the pressures of making peace after a decade of war, and the daunting task of overcoming centuries of hatred to with accord with the Covenant of Mages. Herric and Elaine must also find time to make an arranged marriage work; to become partners; and to know each other as man and woman.
A thousand-year-old prophecy…
As their enemies close around them, Herric and Elaine learn how much harder it is to forge a peace than to wage a war, especially as the sinister implications of an age-old prophecy—that the High Kings’ last heir will "unite me and mages again, or lead all peoples into utter darkness"—begin to affect Herric and his throne directly, and all his choices can lead to doom.
